With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just weeks away, preparations across the USA, Canada and Mexico are entering the final stages.
Unlike previous World Cups, no completely new stadiums have been built for the tournament. Instead, organisers have focused on upgrading and renovating existing venues ahead of the biggest World Cup in history.
A total of 16 stadiums will host matches across the three countries, including famous venues such as Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca and the 94,000-seat Dallas Stadium in Texas.
Several stadiums have undergone major redevelopment work, including:
•Expansion projects in Toronto
•Technology and hospitality upgrades in Boston
•A major renovation of Estadio Azteca in Mexico
•
Most stadium work is now close to completion, although some surrounding infrastructure and fan-zone construction is still ongoing in host cities.
The 2026 tournament will also be the first ever World Cup hosted across three countries and will feature 48 teams and 104 matches making it the biggest football tournament ever staged.
