The World Cup Final Stadium!

Rising from the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the stadium that will host the 2026 World Cup final, MetLife Stadium, temporarily branded New York New Jersey Stadium, is a modern monument to big‑league sport and big‑scale construction.

It was conceived in the early 2000s, when the New York Giants and New York Jets agreed their old home, Giants Stadium, was no longer fit for the future.

A new, shared venue was planned next door. Ground broke in 2007, with a construction team led by Skanska and Tishman delivering one of the most ambitious stadium builds in US history.

Despite its size and technical complexity, the project stayed on track, and the stadium officially opened in 2010.

Costing around $1.6 billion and largely privately financed by the two NFL franchises, MetLife was designed by 360 Architecture and EwingCole to be flexible, robust and TV‑friendly, with a steel and glass exterior and an advanced bowl layout optimised for sightlines and atmosphere.

Now, after hosting Super Bowls, massive concerts and countless NFL games, the venue is being adapted again, this time for the world’s biggest match.

The 2026 final will be the ultimate validation of its design and construction.
